Deadline: October 12
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a legislator before the American Revolution? What issues would you discuss? What would be important to you? How would you shape the future of the United States of America? Find out at the Virginia YMCA's Williamsburg Program. Discuss and debate issues as if it were the year 1770. Find out what we're still talking about today. What can we learn from the past? How can we shape the future?
Join us to discuss these and other issues. Students will hear a comprehensive history of our country’s founding, tour Williamsburg with our own tour guides, go on a photo scavenger hunt of Colonial Williamsburg, prepare a presentation on a colonial issue, and discuss colonial issues and bridge them to today.
This fun and exciting weekend has been a favorite of students since its beginning in 2009 and is a great way for students to come together as a community of learners prior to MGA. However, MGA experience is not a pre-requisite for the program.
Any high school student in the Commonwealth of Virginia can participate – no delegation or advisor is needed. Students can register below on their own. Please note the small project to be completed before the program begins. The cost is $250 and includes lodging at the Hospitality House in Williamsburg, tickets to all attractions, all meals (including tavern lunch on Saturday), ghost tour, and materials. We hope you’ll go back in time with us!
The Williamsburg Program will satisfy many Standards of Learning, including the following:
It also satisfies many AP US History and AP US Government themes.
